The Story: Lights Will Guide You Home

First Lights

A few weeks ago, I posted a status on Facebook that said something to the effect of “We are praying for confirmation!” This of course, as you have probably figured out by now, was in reference to a new house that came on the market that stole our hearts at first glance.

It was a beautifully redone flip, and was not even close to the “fixer-upper” that we thought that we were looking for, but we felt a connection and peace about the house, and started to pray intensely for confirmation from the Lord. Was this our house?

That night, I was answering some e-mails on the laptop, feeling scatter-brained and overwhelmed by all the noise in the apartment. The dishwasher running. The air conditioner pumping full blast. The washer and dryer running. The hum of the laptop, and the heat radiating from the bottom of it beginning to redden the tops of my legs. And on top of that, my husband flips the TV to a Coldplay concert.

I sat there and continued working for a while, but eventually I began to have sensory overload, and asked my husband if he would mind turning off the TV.

He patiently replied. “I really…feel like I want to keep watching this.”

I just sighed, and didn’t press the matter too much, and continued working. I flipped over to Facebook, and updated my status, and said another prayer asking the Lord for confirmation, with Coldplay providing my background music.

As I sat there typing, I heard the familiar organ intro, I had played the song before for a graduation awards night. I looked up from the screen and listened as he began to sing. I knew that this was one of my husband’s favorite songs. I watched and listened as the verses were sung, and the pyrotechnics exploded. The electric guitar came in on the bridge with the familiar lick I had heard so many times before, and I looked over at my husband. He had a misty look on his face, and I could tell that the Holy Spirit was working in him. I asked him what he was thinking, and he just looked at me sweetly and smiled, and continued listening to the song.

After it was over, he shared what was going on in his head, and his heart…

“I had a conversation with God a few months ago, and He told me that when we had found the house that we were supposed to buy he would play “Fix You” for me. I remember saying to Him, “God, you will have to work a miracle, because I don’t ever listen to the radio anymore, and I don’t even listen to music a whole lot anymore.”

We sat there and replayed the song a few times, and just soaked up the moment. What a beautiful confirmation.

We immediately e-mailed our realtor and started the process. The Lord has beautifully paved the way for us to make it into our dream home.

Lord willing, if everything continues to go right, we will be closing on our new home on August 3rd, 2011. We couldn’t be happier.

Thank you everyone that prayed for us, and we thank the Holy Spirit for providing us with the confirmation that we so desperately wanted.

This is a blog of our new place, of our little projects, and how we will make our new house so very ours.

“Well if you never try then you’ll never know just what you’re worth. Lights will guide you home.”
